New Veggie Dishes Coming to the Alamo?
I've been following all the work on building the new Alamo Drafthouse Theater at the Ritz all summer, excited to see the new downtown location rise like a phoenix from the ashes of Sixth Street. Well, the Alamo chefs have been working on new dishes for the new location, and the Alamo's Lars Nilsen reports on some of the vegetarian concoctions that look promising, including baked macaroni and cheese, rich vegetarian lasagna, spinach and black bean egg rolls, and yummy tofu vegetable wraps. As someone who's gotten a bit tired of pizza and veggie burgers, I'm hoping these items will make their way to the menus at all of the Alamo locations.

This would be good, I've been waiting for them to have some vegetarian options you can easily eat with a fork in the dark!
Glad they're expanding their menu, but would love to see more vegan options!
Of the items listed, only the mac and cheese made it to the menu. I was hoping for a few more items, but I gotta say, that mac and cheese is awesome. It's not mentioned in the blog post, but they cook a little bit of green chili into it, and it just takes it to another place. I absolutely loved it.
I'm disappointed that the tofu wrap didn't make it. I like getting sandwiches like the Buffalo 66 or the grilled cheese, but would like another, "greener" option. Not that it does any good for this site's readers, but I don't recall the shepard's pie being on there either (though it's entirely possible I glazed over it on the menu since I wasn't paying attention to the meat dishes).
All in all, the menu only had a small amount of new stuff on it. There was a new pizza that sounded all right, but you'd have to order it w/o the meat. (I do this frequently with the Blazing Saddles pizza.)
Vegans, you're out of luck. Hope you like the salads.
I'm a little late on this, but this is GREAT news! I wish all of the items listed had made the menu, but as a mac n cheese expert, I'm planning my next trip to the new location. Hope it makes it to the other locations.
Thanks for the tip!
