Alamo Village Hosts a Vegetarian Feast
First, the good news. The Alamo Drafthouse at the Village is hosting a big organic vegetarian feast on April 11th along with a screening of the movie "Babe". This looks like it will be delicious and really cute, although the $50 per person charge for the event seems a bit steep. More info on the event is on the Alamo Village's website.
However, I found out about this before a movie at the Alamo South Lamar on Saturday, and the promo trailer was a bit disturbing. It had scenes from "Babe" cut with title cards that basically made three points:
1. Animals are your friends.
2. Animals are tasty.
3. It's hard to eat animals that are cute and talking to you.
It seemed in pretty poor taste for a trailer about a vegetarian event to talk about tasty animals, but I guess some people need cute talking animals to convince them that they can go a meal without feasting on flesh.
BTW, as an aside, I've not been posting much here lately. I have no good excuse other than being generally busy. However, I've recently discovered Twitter, a micro-blogging platform using text messages from your cellphone. So, on my Twitter account, I'm starting to post micro-reviews of places I go, and eventually I'll collect them into recaps for this site. If you want to find out as they happen, you can follow my Twittering at http://twitter.com/unwiredben/.

Hey Ben,
Justin with Alamo here....I totally see your point about the ad tape for Babe. We were aiming for the market that might not attend a vegetarian feast normally and in doing so maybe crossed the line a bit.
I would like to address the cost of the event however. It is worth noting that the cost of the event includes not only the film and 4 courses over the meal, but a wine pairing for each course (4 organic wines in all). Add to this the cost of producing an all organic locally grown meal for 80 people and we are actually cutting it pretty close to the vest as far as profit margin goes.
Anyways, thanks for giving me a voice on your blog and a chance to address you concerns. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you at the event!
That marketing logic does break my brain a little.
