The Kolache: Bun of Fun or No Good Food?
I also stopped by the new Lone Star Kolaches location on Parmer Lane this week; I went in after a yummy tomato and avocado sandwich next door at Which Wich to see what their menu was like. I'd like to give them a +1 for having a menu with lots of vegetarian items that are specifically called out with little "circle-V" symbols. The choices range from the sweet (several varieties of fruit filling and chocolate cream cheese) to the savory (a veggie roll with broccoli, cheese, egg, and mushroom). They also have a veggie kabob plate served with pita, rice, and salad, and several kinds of vegetarian salads. However, I've got to give this particular visit a -2; I picked up two veggie kolaches to go, and later that day I heated them up to try them out. The first one was good, although a bit more eggy than I normally like. When I bit into the second one, I knew I had a problem -- it ended up being one of their sausage and egg kolaches. Fortunately, I detected that very quickly.
I'll certainly go back; I need to try their other items and also let them know about the mistake. It looks like going earlier in the day is better, as they do run out of items. I had originally wanted to try the spinach and cheese one, but got the veggie one when that wasn't available at 2PM.
