New Developments in the Indian Food Scene
Two new bits of news for Indian food fans:
Ghandi Bazar on Parmer Lane is a nice Indian market featuring lots of heat-and-serve Indian dishes as well as plenty of raw ingredients for making your own meals They've recently started a new take-out business called Curry in Hurry in the storefront next to the store. $5 gets you a curry, a dal dish, some bread, and rice. Al the dishes are vegetarian, and they've got their weekly menu posted on their site so you can see what's available every day.
I've also got an email from the owner of Indian Palace on Far West. This place has been open for a while, but I'd not had a chance to visit. However, from the website it looks like they're doing a good job of catering to vegetarian diners. To quote:
We are proud to present a veritable bonanza for vegetarians: fresh spinach with house-made paneer cheese, rich and creamy daal soup, delicious mushrooms and peas in brown sauce, cauliflower and potato allo with spices, eggplant and tomato stewed with spices, chickpea and onion curry, vegetable pakoras (chickpea batter fritters), and more.
The site has a coupon that your can print out and bring with you to get a discount on a two-person trip. I'm going to try to stop by and see the selection for myself in the near future.

I've been to India Palace a few times and it's pretty good, but not the best Indian food I've had. I wished I lived closer to Ghandi Bazar, that sounds like a good deal. The best Indian food that I've had was in Los Angeles, London and Singapore. I know including Singapore sounds strange, but the have a very large Indian community there. Hopefully I will make it to India some day.
