Cheap Gardenburger Subs
First, a big welcome to new readers from the Austinist where we just got named as the "Random Blog of the Week". I know I'm rather random, but this was an unexpected and appreciated honor.
Second, Thundercloud Subs is currently running a special on their "GardenFresh" sub: $2.49 for 6" of veggie goodness or $3.49 for the 40% larger 10" version. Apparently, the demand for them has been so high that the stores are on allocation, so you might call before heading over. The sale ends on Sunday the 29th.
Third, if want even more Gardenburger in your diet, the Costco in North Austin is now stocking the Gardenburger Black Bean Chipotle Wraps in boxes of ten. I tried a couple and found them to be fairly tasty, especially with some spicy salsa on the side. They're certainly good freezer fodder for those times when you can't eat out.

I almost got one of those veggie burgers aat Thundercloud, but I didn't know if it was vegan or not. Do you know?
I'm not sure if it's vegan, but I think it's likely. The Thundercloud site lists it as "rice, soy & veggies, meatless, low fat & zero cholesterol", and it's made by Gardenburger. I'd guess it's the same as the GardenVegan patty, since the original GardenBurger does have cholesterol in it. It would be worth asking.
Grrr....I just went to Thundercloud Subs to take advantage of the Gardenburger sub sale. I asked them if it was vegan, and they said they didn't think so. I asked to see the packaging, and sure enough - egg whites. To add insult to injury, the Nada Chicken subs (which I adore and have been getting there often for quite some time now) have egg, whey, and milk in them. I figured I'd just get the regular veggie sub with hummus (apparently now, the only vegan item on the menu), and they were out of wheat bread.
*sigh*
I'm going to see if I can find some contact info for the "highest-ups" at Thundercloud and try to convince them to carry one of the multple vegan patties from Gardenburger instead of the one they have now. The "Garden Vegan" patty listed on the Gardenburger site seems like a perfectly good substitution.
