Diet for a Small Planet Fundraiser
I got a notice last week for a fund raising dinner that's coming up on November 10th. The dinner is for RESULTS Austin, the local branch of a nonprofit advocacy group that's working to fight hunger and poverty in the US and abroad. The dinner will feature Frances Moore Lappé and her daughter, Anna Lappé. Ms. Lappé is the author of the best-selling book Diet For a Small Planet, and the mother/daughter team has just completed a followup to the original book titled Hope’s Edge: The Next Diet for a Small Planet.
While the dinner isn't completely vegetarian, they are making a great effort to accommodate vegetarians and vegans. Details for the event are in the full post.

Frances Moore Lappé’s 1971 three-million-copy bestseller, Diet for a Small Planet, awakened a whole generation to the human-made causes of hunger and the significance of our everyday choices in creating the world we want.
In 2002, Lappé—author of 14 books—released the 30th anniversary sequel to Diet, written with her daughter, Anna Lappé: Hope’s Edge: The Next Diet for a Small Planet. In it, mother and daughter pick up where the original Diet leaves off. They set out on a journey around the world to explore the greatest challenges we face in the new millennium. Traveling to Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, they sought answers to the most urgent question of our time—whether we can go beyond today’s consumerism to work together to heal our lives and the planet.
Hope in action - each of us has the power to help create the world we want.
