Dinner at Cosmic Cafe
This evening, I joined several friends for dinner at Cosmic Cafe Austin, a new all-vegetarian restaurant that has replaced West Lynn Cafe. It was a very pleasant meal, but the restaurant was clearly still going through a big transition. I had their Dharma Bell entree, two stuffed bell peppers, filled with garlic mashed potatoes, with a cheese cap, on top of a small field greens salad and a tart balsamic reduction. It was quite good, especially with a cup of their daal soup as a starter. Two of my friends had their Bhuddah Delight, a meal of curried vegetables, rice, and daal, and they reported the curry to be just-right on the spice level. The owner came out and chatted with us after our meal, and it sounds like they've got some big plans to make the space their own. They've already started, with almost all of the stars in the ceiling taken out and some paint swatches on the walls.
I'll certainly be back soon. They aren't serving alcohol, but they encourage you to bring your own if you'd like it with your meal. They do have chai tea, herbal iced tea, smoothies, and lassi to drink, and their "transitional" menu is full of interesting vegetarian dishes.
