Ruta Maya used to have a nice perch in downtown Austin, but with rising rents, they moved to a new, expanded location on South Congress, up on the hill with the water tower. I've been there a few times now for Austin Poetry Slam events, and I've always been happy with their selection of beverages. I've not had a chance to try their food yet, but I noticed that they have no-egg salad and BBQ tofu among their sandwich choices. They've also got a nice wireless network, so it may be a nice place to settle in for lunch and an afternoon of laptop work.

The food is great here, and there are always vegetarian options, and creative ones, too! Staff are especially friendly and helpful, and Ruta Maya always has music and entertainment, everytime I've been there I've left happy, and usually stayed longer than I planned. Very kid-friendly, they have Sunday morning kids shows (free, but you end up buying yummy food and drinks and then donating to the act, cuz it's quality entertainment) and on regular days they have a kids' toy section inside and a little playhouse outside if you want to sit outside...Lots of good vibes and I highly recommend it...Peace
