If you're in Way South Austin and craving Vietnamese food, this is one of your best destinations. When I worked in Oak Hill, I'd go here at least once a week. Their tofu vegetable noodle soup was both tasty and a sure way to clear your sinuses when dealing with Texas allergies. Their tofu vermicelli comes loaded with lettuce and carrots, in addition to well done tofu chunks. They also have a more elaborate dinner menu and a Chinese menu, but I rarely strayed from those two menu items. Find it on William Cannon in the shopping center at the intersection of Manchaca.

Update (2005 April 8): Since I originally wrote this review in 1999, I've stayed a regular customer, and they still do a great job. They have a separate vegetarian menu now, including several traditional Vietnamese dishes. The lemongrass tofu is really nice, and their hot-and-sour tofu soup has a really interesting, sweet flavor. I still tend to go for the tofu vegetable rice noodle soup; it's great on days when my allergies are acting up and I need something to clear out my sinuses.

I was impressed with this place at first, not so much now. The third time I got take-out I found multiple pieces of chicken in my Lemon grass tofu. Next time in I found out that there was beef and chicken broth in the soups labeled as vegetable. The waiter then became very "vegetarian dish question" unfriendly, which pissed me off because we were not being rude in any way. He looked at me as if I were an alien when I asked if there were any soups without chicken broth, and then said "that would be just water". I will stick with New Age Cafe, Mr. Natural, and Mothers (when it opens again), and support the restaurants that you won't get any meaty surprises, and treat you with respect.
